FREMM program develops Italian-French frigates with a common base and national differences; the Italian units have a displacement of about 6,500 tons, a length of 144 meters, a speed of over 27 knots, and an endurance of 45 days or 6,000 miles at 15 knots. The CODLAG propulsion system includes a gas turbine, reversible electric motors, C.P. propellers, and four diesel generators; both versions have a hull-mounted sonar and a double hangar for helicopters. The ASW version features towed sonar sensors and two 76/62 mm Strales guns, while the GP version has two RHIBs and a 127/64 mm gun with the Vulcano system.
