Workplace safety

SAFETY STARTS WITH YOU

At Fincantieri, safety is a shared value, a collective responsibility and a right for everyone.

That’s why we encourage listening, participation and individual responsibility, creating spaces and opportunities for ongoing dialogue. From Safety Breaks in the shipyards to Perceptions Alignment meetings, and Injury Commissions with shared analysis of events, every initiative is designed to value the experience of those who live the work on the ground every day. Our goal is clear: zero accidents, every day, in every shipyard. And we know we can achieve it only through everyone’s concrete commitment.

A CONCRETE COMMITMENT EVERY DAY

Behind every figure there is a safer environment, a more aware person,

one less risk. Our commitment follows three fundamental directions:

alt
+7,6 MILLION EUROS INVESTED IN HEALTH AND SAFETY
+184.100 TRAINING HOURS DELIVERED ON HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT
-14.7% WORKPLACE ACCIDENTS COMPARED TO 2023
-21.2% IN THE RECORDABLE ACCIDENT RATE
A PLAN TO GROW IN SAFETY

In 2023 we launched the Safety Strengthening Plan, which continues in 2024 with increasingly widespread and inclusive actions. The Plan aims to make safety a shared responsibility, an integral part of the company culture.

Driving this vision was the Zero Accidents Future On Board – #SAFETYONBOARD campaign, launched on 28 April 2023, on the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Through posters in the shipyards, visual content and experiential activities, the campaign aims to keep attention high in the workplace, promoting conscious and responsible behaviors. A clear and direct message: safety is everyone’s right, but also a daily commitment.

PLAN INITIATIVES
The Plan is structured into a series of operational and listening initiatives, designed to directly involve employees, supervisors and suppliers:
01
SAFETY BREAK
Monthly discussion sessions in the shipyards to share best practices, discuss critical situations and strengthen the culture of prevention. The content is translated into six languages to truly reach everyone involved.
+
02
TOP SAFETY
An interactive and gamified course that has made training more effective and engaging. In 2024, it involved 78% of Fincantieri S.p.A. supervisors, strengthening their central role in safety management.
+
03
PERCEPTIONS ALIGNMENT
Monthly meetings that bring together management, HR Business Partners, and HSE Managers at the same table. The goal? To listen to the internal climate, share critical issues and co-design solutions in a timely and structured way.
+
04
SHIPYARD SAFETY FIRST
Safety is the first topic of every meeting, from general management to operational moments in the departments. A simple but powerful way to keep attention alive and convey crucial updates.
+
05
SAFETY ON THE JOB
Through site inspections and post-accident analysis commissions, we identify the real causes of incidents and intervene with corrective measures, with a practical approach based on listening and sharing.
+
06
STEAM PRESSING DITTE
Constant dialogue with our strategic suppliers is an essential part of the Plan. We require high standards and promote improvement plans in line with those of the company, so that safety is guaranteed throughout the supply chain.
+
TRAINING THAT PROTECTS
Through the Fincantieri Safety Academy, we offer diversified paths with classroom sessions, digital modules, field simulations and initiatives dedicated to the most exposed roles, such as the Top Safety course and Safety Walk Arounds, which help develop greater risk awareness and improve daily action.

GLOBAL FOCUS

In Romania, at the Braila and Tulcea shipyards, joint Safety Committees are active, composed of company and worker representatives. They meet at least four times a year to approve the HSE Program, which includes shared objectives, responsibilities, and deadlines.

To make data management and activity monitoring more effective, we are also extending the new HSE Portal, already operational in Romania, to the entire Group.

A centralized digital system that will improve reporting, communication and sharing of information on health, safety and environment, making our commitment increasingly integrated and transparent.

FROM VISION TO MANAGEMENT

Our daily commitment to safety is based on the Health, Safety, Environment and Energy Policy an integral part of the Group’s sustainability strategy.

This document guides choices, sets measurable objectives and directs the actions of people and suppliers in all the countries where we operate.

Because making work safer is not just a duty: it is a responsibility that starts from the top and translates into concrete actions.
