Kalaat Beni-Abbes is a landing and logistic support unit, born from the technological evolution of the “San Giusto” class, an Italian amphibious unit, from which he retains and improves some significant features. The most relevant among these is the presence of a floodable dock inside the ship, capable of housing a chaland (a 20-meter landing craft) ready to operate; two other boats of the same size can travel secured on the garage deck and be handled through an overhead crane. When necessary, the dock can be emptied to accommodate other types of vehicles.
