U212A program is the result of an Italian-German governmental cooperation, with an industrial agreement between the Group and the German Submarine Consortium. The submarines are built with non-magnetic material and solutions to minimize acoustic signature. The silent propulsion system uses fuel cells, providing submerged endurance 3–4 times greater than conventional batteries. They are equipped with electroacoustic systems, integrated weapon command and control, and modern platform automation.
