The Fincantieri Foundation: Italian language course certificates for foreign workers awarded in Sestri Ponente

26 March 2025

Yesterday, the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente hosted the ceremony to present the certificates of participation in Italian language courses, aimed at foreign workers employed by subcontractor companies. The courses were promoted and funded by the Fincantieri Foundation. The event celebrated the achievement of the first cohort of 15 participants who successfully completed a comprehensive 50-hour curriculum over 25 sessions, each lasting two hours. Looking ahead, several graduates are set to continue their learning journey with an advanced course scheduled to begin in late April.

In attendance at the ceremony for Fincantieri were Fausto Recchia, Senior Vice President Defense and International Institutional Affairs of Fincantieri and President of the Fincantieri Foundation, Lorenza Pigozzi, Group Strategic Communication Director of Fincantieri and member of the Board of the Foundation, Alessio Belli, Head of the Group Organization Development, Learning & Labor Cost of Fincantieri, Massimo Canesin, Director of the Sestri Ponente shipyard, and Rossella Bifero, HR Business Partner at the Sestri shipyard. Representing the Società Dante Alighieri was Lorenzo Rocca, Head of Language Projects. A delegation of FIOM and FIM union representatives was also present.

The courses, promoted by the Fincantieri Foundation in partnership with the Società Dante Alighieri, form a key component of the everyDEI program, the initiative through which the Group has embraced diversity, equity, and inclusion as a cornerstone of its identity. Beyond enhancing conversational and reading skills—with a particular focus on understanding workplace signage—the courses also aimed to raise awareness among participants on the importance of using the Italian language to promote greater inclusion, both professionally and socially.

At present, the Sestri Ponente plant hosts two additional classes comprising approximately 50 workers, who are expected to complete their training between April and May. This initiative has been met with an overwhelmingly positive response, underscoring its value. Building on this success, Fincantieri plans to gradually extend it to other production sites across the Group.

Through this initiative, the Fincantieri Foundation is strengthening the mission for its new direction, making a tangible contribution to the integration of foreign workers by providing access to language training. The Italian language course project is part of a wider strategy by the Group to foster a corporate culture rooted in respect and inclusivity. This is achieved through initiatives and events designed to raise awareness on issues such as multiculturalism, disability, intergenerational relations, and gender equality.
