Fincantieri and Tallink have reached an agreement to build two new generation, high performance, ice-class cruise ferries, one of which as an option.
The ships’ main features are: 36,000 gross tonnes, 2,000 passengers, 200 cabins, a speed of 29 knots, loading capacity of 2,000 lane meters.
Tallink, which is the leading Estonian ferry operator and one of the most advanced in the Baltic area, runs regular services between Estonia and Finland as well as Estonia and Sweden.
Fincantieri, the leading Italian shipbuilder and one of the most important, diversified shipbuilding concerns in the world, is a well established builder of cruise ships and large cruise ferries.
Giuseppe Bono, Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri, commenting on the agreement with Tallink said: “This is a great commercial success for us in a high profile, competitive market, North Europe, which will enable us to add a prestige brand name to our customer portfolio, whilst at the same time strengthening our position as world leader in the field of large ferries. Since long we are also world leaders as builders of cruise ships”. “Thanks to the experience and reliability of Fincantieri - Bono concluded – Tallink will be able to count on technologically advanced vessels which will represent the state of the art in the industry.”
Enn Pant, Chairman of the Board of AS Tallink Grupp, added: “Ordering this new vessel from a leading shipyard is a honor and a challenge to us. We believe that this new ferry will be of high standard and will bring some new concepts to our services.”
