At the end of 2004 Fincantieri announced at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show its entrance into the mega-yacht business and its strategic alliance with Benetti.
Since then, the two companies, supported by an ideal level of mutual understanding and cooperation, have effectively worked together, actively complementing each other strength, starting joint research, development and training programs, defining standards and processes, selecting the key strategic suppliers, actively operating on the market with some important negotiations, and, last but not least, developing new concepts designs to be then tailored to the specific needs of the owner.
Fincantieri has therefore chosen the Miami International Boat Show to unveil, on February 17th 2006, as a world premiere, a new outstanding concept design: project “Morpheus” by Tim Heywood, the acclaimed designer of some of the most appealing large yachts cruising the seas of the world.
The 115 meter “Morpheus” project is intended to be a timeless contemporary classic yacht which challenges and even surpasses the level of balance and beauty of the designer’s previous creations.
Fincantieri’s ongoing marketing strategy is based on three different approaches which are being simultaneously pursued:
• the development of new concepts, designed by other well-known international designers, to be finally tailored to the customer’s needs;
• the development of projects based on a customer’s designer proposal;
• the development of projects based on the Company’s in-house designs, developed following the needs and requirements outlined by the customer.
All Fincantieri new projects are based on a common set of features, among them, an unmistakable, unique and elegant character of the external design; an interior design providing a luxurious dècor with a high level of comfort and brightness; interior layouts developed with a view to logistic efficiency and functionality; high technological contents; design solutions targeted to ensure attractive delivery dates and a high product quality.
Fincantieri projects will benefit from Benetti’s vast expertise in yachting and Fincantieri’s proven technological capability, cutting-edge engineering, and long term building expertise.
Taking advantage of this event in Miami, Fincantieri also displayed a synthesis of the concept designs already presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2005 which are generating high interest in the market:
• the 70 m project “Prospect” by Laurent Giles, which is intended to be a development of the trend of the Explorer Vessels into a true yacht
• the 102 m project “Marco Polo” by Camillo Costantini, which is an unprecedented off-the-shelf design combining together a Retro’ and Modern style with a strong Italian identity.
The new design development is a long term strategy for Fincantieri and further new concepts design may follow at the next important rendez-vous of the mega yacht industry.
