We are a “system integrator” and we offer turnkey solutions, providing our customers with post-sales services as well.
These systems represent the technological core of modern naval platforms, both civil and defense, and are designed to meet the challenges of ecological transition and digitalization.
Fincantieri is at the forefront of developing electric and hybrid propulsion systems, integrating electric motors, batteries, fuel cells, and low-impact generators.
The solutions are designed to:
Among the most recent projects:
Fincantieri’s stabilization systems ensure maximum comfort for passengers and crew by reducing roll and improving navigation safety. The solutions include:
These technologies are essential for cruise ships, yachts, and military units, where stability is a critical requirement for operational efficiency and onboard experience quality.

MAIN FEATURES
APPLICATIONS
Dynamic positioning (DP) systems allow naval units to automatically maintain position and heading, even in adverse weather and sea conditions, without the use of anchors. These technologies are essential for:
Fincantieri integrates sensors, control algorithms, and actuators to ensure precision, reliability, and redundancy, even in high-criticality environments.
In this context, we directly supply the following components:
Fincantieri has developed two configurations of transverse maneuvering propellers:
HMF type with fixed-pitch propeller;
HMC type with controllable-pitch propeller.
Both configurations deliver the same high level of performance, as the propellers are manufactured using ultra-precision machine tools.
Both types of propellers use a flexible coupling to connect the main motor to the drive pinion. The bevel gear, consisting of pinion and crown, which transmits power to the propeller, is made with hardened teeth of extremely high precision.
Tunnel thruster features
PRODUCT RANGE
Azimuth thrusters have been developed according to the stringent standards of the military and offshore sectors.
The two series, ART (retractable) and AT (non-retractable), can be used for dynamic positioning and for both main and auxiliary propulsion.
Retractable thrusters allow quick raising and lowering from inside/outside the vessel. The ART model is designed to be inspected without docking the unit. This feature is made possible by a patented system that uses a removable cover to create a watertight chamber for repairing or replacing the propeller.
The AT model, non-retractable, is equipped with all the necessary equipment to be dismantled and replaced at sea with the assistance of specialized divers.
The installation and alignment of the ART type inside the vessel is achieved through the supply of a customized welded steel structure integrated with the thruster. This simplifies the shipyard’s integration and interface work with the hull.
APPLICATIONS
PRODUCT RANGE
We design and manufacture a wide range of systems for cargo handling and access, both for military vessels and for passenger ships and yachts.
The product range for military ships includes stern or side ramps, freight elevators or platforms with high load capacity, covers, hangar doors, and more.
For cruise ships, we offer customized solutions for personnel access and cargo handling, including complete side-loading systems.
We can provide tailor-made products to meet the specific requirements of our clients:
We rely on extensive experience in the design, supply, and installation of special equipment for both commercial and military applications. We have the know-how and expertise to deliver turnkey offshore marine terminal projects (CALM/SALM) for the Oil & Gas sector.
In addition to designing and building new terminals, we provide upgrade and/or repair services for critical components on existing terminals.
The services we offer in this field include:
Through its subsidiary Isotta Fraschini Motori S.p.A., Fincantieri produces a complete range of high-speed diesel engines, with power outputs from 250 to 3,600 HP, for:
The IF1300 and IF1700 series engines feature high-pressure electronic injection (HPCR), comply with emission regulations, and are also available in non-magnetic versions for military applications.
