The new ship, which is due for delivery in March 2010, will be the second of 2 sister ships commissioned from Fincantieri by the Italian cruise line.
This brings to 4 the number of cruise vessels ordered by Costa from Fincantieri, with a total investment worth almost 2 billion euros.
By 2010 Costa will have 15 ships and about 30,800 berths, confirming its leadership as the cruise operator with Europe’s largest and most advanced fleet.

Genoa/Trieste – December 12, 2006 – The Italian company Costa Crociere SpA, the number one cruise operator in Europe and South America, announced earlier today that it has exercised an option with Fincantieri for the construction of a new 92,700 gross tonnage cruise ship.

The new ship, which is scheduled for delivery in March 2010, will be built at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard, at an all-in cost of approximately 420 million euros. The vessel will have 2,260 lower passenger berths and a total of 1,130 cabins, 772 (68%) of which with private verandas, this being the highest percentage of veranda cabins in the whole Costa fleet. She will be the sister ship of another 92,700-tonner, already announced, also to be built in Marghera and scheduled to enter service in spring 2009.

Today’s announcement brings to 4 the number of Costa Crociere ships that have been commissioned from Fincantieri, with 10,520 lower berths and a total investment of almost 2 billion euros. In addition to the two 92,700 gross tonnage running mates to be built in Marghera, two more 112,000 gross tonnage vessels – sister ships of the flagship Costa Concordia – are under construction in the Genoa-Sestri Ponente yard: the first is the Costa Serena, due in May 2007, while the second will be ready by the summer of 2009.
By the end of 2010, when the last of the 4 new buildings is delivered, the Costa fleet will be 15 strong and have a total of 30,800 lower berths, thus further consolidating its position as Europe’s largest and most advanced.

Costa Crociere Chairman & CEO Pier Luigi Foschi commented: “With this new ship order, Costa reaffirms its long-term successful association with Fincantieri and its continued role in the development of the Italian economy. We expect this new ship to be highly popular with its many innovative facilities, including a double-deck-high magradome, Samsara spa, Samsara on-board life style concept and other state of the art features”.

Giuseppe Bono, Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri, added: “This new order, which is a further endorsement of our role as reference builder for Carnival Group and our position as the sector’s world leader, marks, for both Costa Crociere and ourselves, the successes of the past and the important achievements which we shall reach together”. Mr. Bono went on to say: “This order, which extends our shipyards’ workload until 2010, confirms once again that our company can rely on a sound financial framework”.

Fincantieri has delivered 38 cruise vessels since 1990. Orders have been placed for another 14 new buildings, some of which are already under construction in its yards, making 52 in all, worth a total in excess of US$ 21 billion (at current prices and exchange rate).

“Europe is one of the world’s fastest growing cruising areas and Costa is the region’s preeminent cruise operator. Continuing to invest in new ship construction will enable Costa to maintain its leadership position within the region while providing new and innovative on-board facilities and features for its guests,” said Micky Arison, Carnival Corporation & plc chairman and CEO.
