Today at Fincantieri’s Venice (Marghera) shipyard there was the presentation ceremony of the “Eurodam”, built for Holland America Line (Carnival Group), the first cruise ship in the new top-of- the-range line “Signature of Excellence Class” and the largest in the company’s fleet.
Present at the ceremony were the Minister of Work, Health and Social Policies, Maurizio Sacconi, and representing Carnival Group, Micky Arison, Chairman and CEO, and Holland America Line Stein Kruse, President and CEO. Fincantieri was represented by the company Chairman, Corrado Antonini, and CEO, Giuseppe Bono.
The 87,000-tonne ship, at over 280 metres long, can accommodate up to 2,104 passengers in 1,050 cabins (85% external, 67% with a private balcony). As a floating luxury hotel, the ship is provided with every comfort and offers a wide range of entertainment. The interiors have been designed to make guests’ stay even pleasanter with spacious cabins and beautifully decorated restaurants and public areas, wellness centres and hydromassage pools which are even larger than those on board the other ships in the fleet. As the four ships in the “Vista” class, which Fincantieri delivered to Holland America Line between November 2002 and January 2006, this new ship also has innovative external glass lifts running along both her sides which give panoramic views.
The “Eurodam” will be christened on the first of July in Rotterdam by Queen Beatrix of Holland. The ship will then depart for her maiden cruise of three days calling at the ports of Hamburg and Copenhaghen.
This is the 45th cruise ship built since 1990 by Fincantieri, world leader in the sector, and a further 17 – including 5 at Marghera – are currently under construction or about to be built at the Group’s shipyards with deliveries scheduled within 2012.
