Today at Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard there was the delivery of the “UOS Atlantis” the first of 12 multi-purpose AHTS ships (Anchor Handling, Towing & Supply), ordered from Fincantieri in March 2007 by the German owner, Hartmann Logistik GmbH (Hartmann Reederei Group). The remaining 11 vessels – which will be built at the shipyards of Riva Trigoso, Muggiano and Palermo - will be delivered by mid-2010.
Hartmann Reederei is a leading global player, with a fleet of over 100 vessels including container ships, gas tankers and product tankers as well as bulk carriers, multipurpose vessels and special ships and currently has a substantial newbuilding program with yards in Europe and the Far East. Through its subsidiary Hartmann Logistik, the Group has extended its activities and now also provides logistic services with multi-purpose offshore vessels in addition to tug and barge services

Present at the ceremony were: Niels Hartmann, Managing Director of Hartmann Logistik and Alberto Maestrini, head of the Naval Vessels Business Unit, Fincantieri.

The “UOS Atlantis” was designed to obtain the top class awarded by ABS, the American Bureau of Shipping. At 76.50 metres long and 17.50 metres wide the ship will have a draught of 6.85 metres and a deadweight of over 3,000 tonnes. Equipped with four diesel engines capable of generating 12,000 KW, the vessel will be able to reaching a maximum speed of 16.3 knots and will have a bollard pull of 188 tons.

The vessel will be able to work in any field of offshore operations and carry out support activities for oil rigs and exploratory platforms, open-sea towing, anti-pollution operations and fire-fighting, transport of dry and liquid bulk cargo.
The ship is equipped with a system of large winches (450-ton pull) which enable it to safely carry out towing and deep-water anchor handling activities for positioning offshore platforms. Moreover, the ship has over 600 sq.m available for stowing cargo on deck and will be able to carry dry bulk and liquid cargo required by offshore platforms.

Based on the “Moss 424” design which was developed by the Norwegian company Moss Maritime (Saipem Group), this type of vessel affords a high degree of operational flexibility.
Two ships of the same type (“AH Liguria” e “AH Camogli”) have already been built at Muggiano shipyard for Finarge, a brand in the Italian group Rimorchiatori Riuniti.
