The design of the Emerald Princess is a natural evolution from the Grand Class–series ships (Grand Princess, Golden Princess and Star Princess, 109,000-grt vessels delivered respectively in 1998, 2001 and 2002).
Emerald Princess was completed in 2007 and is the 22nd cruise ship built at Monfalcone since 1980 and the 12th for Princess Cruises.
