The FCX15 PATROL technical characteristics, and in particular hull shape, propulsion architecture and seaworthiness characteristics are based on Fincantieri long experience made on the Oshore Patrol Vessels Class currently successfully in operation. The Patrol version maintain the excellent survivability characteristics of the FCX15 combat version. Its size and available spaces on board allow, even after the delivery of the ship, to increase its operational capabilities by embarking some weapon systems and sensors.
Missions during peace time and low level crisis

- Coastal and oshore patrolling & monitoring
- Fishery protection;
- Protection of natural marine resources;
- Search And Rescue (SAR);
- Constabulary Operations, including operations of marine interdiction, anti-terrorism, illegal immigration, illegal traffics.
- Helicopter Operations (day and night);
- Crew training.
Missions during open crisis
- Maritime Counter Insurgency/Terrorism (COINT) and asymmetric warfare
- Convoy Escort/Patrolling in blue and brown waters
- Mission participations as part of a coalition
- Anti-Air Warfare (Self-Defence)
- Anti-Surface (ASuW)
- Naval Gunfire Support (NGS) against shore targets [050]
