FCX20 PATROL is the new class of Oshore Patrol Vessel built for the Italian Navy; This new class responds to the need to ensure adequate surveillance capabilities, patrolling operation, control of merchant traic, convoy escort, protection of communication lines and the Exclusive Economic Zone, search and rescue operations.
FCX20 PATROL is based on the FCX20 design in a less combatant version but with important technological solutions to enhance the capacity of patrolling as high standards of automation and maneuverability, making them suitable for operations in a wide range of tactical scenarios and weather conditions.
Among the most notable innovations is the integrated naval cockpit developed for the Italian Navy’s Thaon de Revel class (MPCS/PPA). The cockpit allows control of the propulsion system, rudders and platform systems, as well as some combat system functions, by only two operators, the pilot and co-pilot, optimizing efficiency, safety and significantly reducing reaction times to threats.
The vessel is equipped with a fully capable anti-pollution system able to treat and recover hydrocarbons dispersed at sea following oil spills.
For search and rescue operations the ship can operate and recover a medium size helicopter and two RHIBs (7mt and 9 mt).
