Fincantieri announces the signing of a strategic agreement with WSense, an Italian deep tech company, aimed at strengthening the Group’s capabilities in offering cutting-edge systems for the underwater domain. The agreement provides, on one hand, for the co-development of advanced wireless technological solutions for the underwater sector and, on the other, a commercial agreement for their application to environmental monitoring through Fincantieri Infrastructure.
Specifically, the agreement enables Fincantieri to integrate WSense technologies into the DEEP system for the monitoring and protection of critical infrastructures, reducing the need for cabling and thus mitigating one of the main vulnerabilities of traditional systems. This innovation, in fact, increases the resilience of sensitive facilities, offering a safer, more flexible, and easily implementable solution. At the same time, the commercial agreement provides for the use of WSense technologies in environmental monitoring and structural integrity control in the civil sector through Fincantieri Infrastructure, representing a product innovation with a significant impact in terms of effectiveness, safety, and efficiency for the end user.
The agreement is part of the already consolidated relationship between the Group and WSense, also following the investment in the company that Fincantieri made in April 2025, further strengthening a synergy based on complementary expertise: on one side, Fincantieri’s ability to integrate and orchestrate complex solutions, and on the other, WSense’s specialist know-how in wireless networks and underwater monitoring systems. With this operation, Fincantieri consolidates its position as a leader in the underwater sector, confirming itself as an orchestrator of integrated solutions and a benchmark for the development of frontier technologies.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, stated: “Today’s agreement concretely strengthens our strategy for the development of the underwater economy, a field in which the ability to transform cutting-edge national technologies into solutions is a decisive competitive factor. The long-standing collaboration with WSense, a deep-tech company in which we are convinced investors, enables us to implement underwater wireless telecommunications in our next-generation products, increasing the resilience, safety, and sustainability of strategic critical infrastructures. This is a further step in the journey that sees Fincantieri as an orchestrator of complex technological ecosystems and an industrial platform of reference for underwater technological sovereignty, serving the dual-use industry, the environment, and the national system.”
Chiara Petrioli, CEO of WSense, said: “We are pleased with this commercial partnership, which establishes WSense’s role as an innovation leader in the underwater sector and allows us, together with a national industrial excellence such as Fincantieri, to bring cutting-edge wireless systems to the market for the surveillance, protection, and sustainable management of underwater infrastructures, as well as the creation of innovative services for the Blue Economy. We are convinced that the innovation supply chain that is taking shape will position Italy among the key players in the revolution of the Internet of Underwater Things, in a field that is increasingly strategic for the global economy and at the heart of the development of future digital highways.”
