Social, cultural, and environmental projects and initiatives

In line with our Policy on Initiatives for Communities and Territories, we have launched numerous projects and initiatives with the aim of creating shared value and supporting the growth of the areas in which we operate.
PROMOTION OF EDUCATIONAL AND TRAINING PROGRAMS

We are committed to maintaining a virtuous cycle and an increasingly close and lasting bond with our reference communities, creating opportunities for growth and enhancing people's abilities.

We are committed to reducing the gap between labor supply and demand, focusing on skills development and offering guidance and training programs for students, unemployed, and job seekers, in line with the most in-demand profiles within the sectors in which we operate.

We are members of the ELIS Consortium and active participants in the “Distretto Italia” project, created to guide young people in their study and work choices, train them, and place them within companies. The ultimate goal is to provide a concrete response to the NEET (Not engaged in Education, Employment or Training) emergency, as well as to address the general skills shortage.

We also have strong partnerships with schools, Technical Institutes, Higher Technical Institutes, Universities, and Business Schools to foster greater synergy between the world of work, education, and ongoing professional training. We have launched various projects involving our people as master craftsmen, role models, and mentors, with the aim of developing students’ technical and soft skills while enhancing their passions and talents.

ELIS CONSORTIUM
+
In Italy, we collaborate with the ELIS Consortium, which contributes to the economic development of communities by creating new jobs and spreading market-required skills, through a network of over 120 organizations including large companies, SMEs, universities, and public and private institutions. In particular, we support projects aimed at guiding young people into the world of work, to combat the NEET phenomenon and actively promote STEM disciplines, challenging gender stereotypes and incentivizing training in strategic fields.
NAVIGARE INSIEME
+
The Fincantieri Foundation has launched the NAVIGARE INSIEME project to support the cultural and professional inclusion of foreign employees at the Monfalcone and Sestri Ponente shipyards, offering Italian language courses in collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Association. Thanks to this initiative, non-Italian speakers can feel like active participants in company and social life, both within the shipyards and in their daily lives. The high number of participants led to the extension of the programme, initially planned for two classes, with the activation of additional training cycles, further strengthening the Foundation’s commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and social cohesion in the areas where the Group operates.

RESPECT FOR FUTURE
+

Respect for Future is the initiative dedicated to raising awareness among our people about a culture of respect and combating gender-based violence.

After the launch event in November 2023, the project focused on Fincantieri’s production sites and Italian subsidiaries through a roadshow open to both direct employees and subcontractors. The aim is to lay the foundations for a corporate culture capable of recognizing, preventing, and eliminating any form of violence and to strengthen a sense of shared responsibility, reaffirming the importance of building a more respectful and inclusive future through the active participation of the entire company community.

During 2024, six out of eleven planned events were organized, involving over 2,800 people at the Ancona, Castellammare di Stabia, Riva Trigoso, and Muggiano sites and at the production facilities of our subsidiaries Isotta Fraschini Motori in Bari and Marine Interiors Cabins in Pordenone. The benefits of the initiative also extend beyond the workplace, positively impacting the entire community.

FAMILY DAY
+

The Family Day held on 26 and 27 October 2024 involved 20 Group locations and saw the participation of over 5,000 people.

The aim was to combine the discovery of the Fincantieri world, through visits to offices and production sites, with the development of greater awareness on the topic of disability.

In collaboration with Dynamo Camp, we organized creative workshops during the visits, allowing participants to enjoy moments of sharing and reflection, raising awareness about the daily challenges faced by people with disabilities and the importance of creating a more inclusive and supportive work and social environment.

KIDS ON BOARD
+
The children of our employees aged between 4 and 10 were able to visit the ships built at our plants, attend a themed show, and have lunch on board, highlighting the work of our craftsmen and celebrating the completion of the project together with their families.
WORKERS
+

To mark the completion of each unit’s construction, a celebratory event is held during which the workers involved in the project are invited on board by the shipowner. The initiative includes a tour of the completed vessel, followed by a thank-you lunch/cocktail, organized before the formal handover. The aim is to express sincere gratitude to all those who contributed, with their commitment and professionalism, to the realization of the ship, as well as to celebrate the completion of an important project journey.

In the specific case of the Viking ship, the event was a moment of sharing and appreciation from the owner, who wished to pay tribute not only to the workers, but also to white-collar personnel—including engineers, designers, and other technical and administrative staff—for their valuable contribution to the successful completion of the project.

CORPORATE CLUBS
+

With the aim of promoting a sense of belonging, wellbeing, and social cohesion among our people, we actively support the network of nine corporate clubs present across Italy. These clubs organize social and community activities for a broad audience: active employees, retired former employees, their families, and friends.

The premises of the clubs, the staff dedicated to administrative management, and the financial resources needed for their operations are provided mainly by Fincantieri, confirming our concrete commitment to valuing human capital even beyond the strictly work environment.

We supported “WOW – Wheels on Waves – Around The World,” a three-year initiative (2023–2025) promoted by Difesa Servizi and the Ministry of Defense, involving a voyage around the world aboard Lo Spirito di Stella, the world’s first fully accessible catamaran. Led by disabled skipper Andrea Stella, the journey stopped at over 80 ports globally, aiming to raise awareness on the rights of people with disabilities and to promote a culture of inclusion.

The voyage, carried out with the participation of civilians and military personnel, including people with disabilities from Italy and abroad, delivered a strong and clear message: physical, cultural, and social barriers can be overcome, in full respect of the values enshrined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The initiative responds in particular to one of the key goals of the Fincantieri 2023–2027 Sustainability Plan: promoting a culture of diversity and increasing awareness of both visible and invisible disabilities, inside and outside the organization.

FVCMS – VENICE SUSTAINABILITY FOUNDATION
+

We are a co-founding member of the Venice Sustainability Foundation (FVCMS - Venice Sustainability Foundation), confirming our role as a prime mover in innovation and green transition topics within the shipbuilding industry. The Foundation was established to address the complex environmental, social, and economic challenges of Venice’s fragile ecosystem, with the aim of promoting a sustainable development model that can serve as a global example. Founded under the patronage of the Italian government, it relies on collaborations with local authorities, cultural and academic institutions, and leading companies in their fields. Its activity focuses on crucial thematic areas for the sustainable development of the lagoon city, aiming to stimulate synergies among the various stakeholders involved.

With our know-how and specializations—as well as our established presence in the Venice area through the Marghera shipyard—we are committed to contributing expertise on transition and infrastructural maintenance issues for decarbonization and the protection of the lagoon ecosystem.

In 2024, we actively participated in the realization of the exhibition “WATERPROOF VENICE. A tale in images,” held from 30 May to 6 October at the Venice Arsenale. It was an original conceptual installation that, using Artificial Intelligence algorithms, displayed a set of innovative projects promoted by FVCMS members to make the city more sustainable.
