Lighted fireproof panels for naval use
EU contribution: 266,111.22 euro
PANTAF is a project funded by the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia under the ERDF ROP 2014-2020 - Activities 1.3.b - R&D projects to be implemented through private public partnerships in the Smart Health and Maritime Technology areas of specialization.
The project includes research activities on new materials and the development of design solutions for the construction of a new modular system for cruise ship interior partitions, based on self-supporting panels with A60 and A0 class ship fire insulation features.
The final objective of the project is the development of a new system of lighter panels, but with the same fire resistance features. Such a new system will lead to the replacement of a large percentage of fire partitions on board cruise ships, currently built in steel.
It will thus be possible to avoid most of the hot working during the ship outfitting, minimize the waste material and reduce the weight of the upper part of the ship, with benefits in terms of the overall ship stability and of passenger comfort.
The expected results of the project are:
- the design of a panel system from the theoretical (insulation and fire resistance), construction (weight, costs) and operational (assembly process) point of view;
- the parametric mathematical model simulating fire tests of components for naval applications;
- the simplified analytical models to support the thermo-mechanical design of the components;
- the prototype of the innovative panel system able to pass the certification and homologation tests.
