IPCEI Hy2Tech

Fincantieri S.p.A. is one of the beneficiaries of the first important project of common European interest (IPCEI) to boost the European hydrogen technology value chain, named “IPCEI Hy2Tech” (and also IPCEI H2 Technology or IPCEI Hydrogen 1). The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU and will be financially supported by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. The funding provided is part of the intervention of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP).

The European Commission approved the IPCEI Hy2Tech for Italy with the Authorisation Decision of 15th July 2022 (C(2022)5158 final) relating to prior notification of aid no. SA.64644.

The goal of the IPCEI Hy2Tech is to contribute to the decarbonisation of the economy by promoting the replacement of fossil fuels with hydrogen, through the development of an entire set of innovations in the field of production technology, including manufacturing processes, as well as further innovations along the whole value chain, which would not be achievable without the instrument of the important project of common European interest.

Fincantieri's contribution, in collaboration with Isotta Fraschini Motori S.p.A., aims at the development and implementation of hydrogen technologies and systems in the maritime sector. The activities will include the integration of hydrogen fuel storage and use onboard of green cruise vessels.
