FINCANTIERI FOR THE BARCOLANA

26 September 2008

Following a long-established tradition, Fincantieri is once again supporting the fortieth edition of the “Barcolana”.
This internationally renowned regatta is held in Trieste, the location both of Fincantieri’s head office, which coordinates and oversees the activities of all the company’s shipyards, and of its design centre for the cruise ships and ferries built by the Group. As one of the world’s largest, most diversified shipbuilding concerns, whose wealth of know-how makes it an internationally recognised centre of excellence, the company cannot fail to be present at this important sailing event.
The decision to participate was by no means chance for Fincantieri, heir to the two hundred year tradition of Italian shipbuilding, boasting the construction of over 7,000 vessels, which have carried, and continue to carry, the image of Italian industry over the seven seas of the world.
Within “Fincantieri system”, Trieste and Friuli Venezia Giulia play a central role with a staff of approximately 2,700, equivalent to 30% of the company’s direct employees, constituting the most important territorial centre for the company alongside Liguria.
Events such as the “Barcolana” give the company the opportunity to strengthen its involvement in initiatives in the areas in which it works.
It is a fortunate coincidence that this edition of the “Barcolana” occurs in the same year in which Fincantieri is celebrating the centenary of the foundation of Monfalcone shipyard, which recently hosted the Head of State Giorgio Napolitano, whose visit highlighted a history marked by the achievement of important goals.
Confirmation of the role which Fincantieri plays on the Italian economic and industrial stage has also come from ANCI (National Association of Italian Local Councils) which has chosen Monfalcone to inaugurate their XXV annual assembly in the theatre of the “Ruby Princess” – the 47th cruise ship which Fincantieri has built since 1990 – and which on 22 October will host on board hundreds of mayors from all over Italy.
