A spectacular ship to explore and enjoy

The interior spaces were designed by the brilliant architect Joseph Farcus, the originator of today’s “fun ships”, as a paean to people and places that have become icons of charm and seduction. The interiors evoke the glamour of the classic films, the actors who made them famous, and the works that have graced the most celebrated theatres in the world. At the stern, the lido dedicated to the best-loved film of all, “Gone with the wind”, offers a full 1,000 m2 of fun and relaxation, with water games and Jacuzzis suspended over the sea. Another open-air lido, the Blue Moon, has a retractable glass roof for basking under the big sky all year round plus an 18-m2 mega screen showing videos and films at selected times.

In the Playground area, guests can explore the world of the characters in the films screened at the Nuovomondo 4D cinema, while video game lovers can dive into virtual-reality games, and web fans can make themselves at home at the Internet Point. Rounding off the entertainment on offer are a real Grand Prix simulator on the top deck and a latest-generation golf simulator. Younger visitors can enjoy the open-air water park with its pirate galley and castle, water games and waterslide.

The fun continues with performances at Bel Ami theatre, good company at one of the 13 bars, including a coffee & chocolate bar, the Babylon disco, the Blue Velvet piano bar or The Millionaire casino. The food is a homage to the finest Italian and international cuisine, and gourmet cruisers can savor an endless variety of dishes at no less than 5 on-board restaurants.

The timeless allure permeates the art collection, too. Costa Fascinosa’s delights include a permanent installation of original works and reproductions by contemporary artists – from Sophia Vari, Mimmo Paladino and Giulio Paolini to Casagrande & Recalcati and Annalisa Pirovano – inspired by the idea of glamour, especially the world of cinema, fairytales and characters whose fascinating allure has turned them into cult figures.

Those who like to unwind will love the exclusive Samsara Spa, one of the largest wellness centres ever built on board a cruise ship. It spans over 6,000 m2 with dedicated relaxation areas and a range of top-quality services and treatments. The ship’s gym has all the latest Technogym equipment, including Visioweb machines with internet access, TV and iPods.

Costa Fascinosa takes safety very seriously, with a specific 7-pronged approach. First, the guest training procedures in case of emergency go beyond the minimum legal requirements, backed by a robust procedure for handling failures to attend the on-board safety and emergency training. Then the new “Here for You” section on the Costa Cruises website gives even more information on the safety procedures on board ship. The new High-Tech Safety Monitoring System (HT-SMS) has been launched to track the progress of all the fleet’s ships in real time. The officers have been trained in a new model of managing the bridge, while the navigation plan has been formally issued and agreed, and finally, the policies for accessing the bridge have been bolstered.

Costa Fascinosa also leads the way when it comes to safeguarding the environment. She has been awarded Green Plus status, the highest rating from the Italian register of shipping (RINA) for environmental excellence. Green Plus is a voluntary designation entailing environmental-protection rules that are much stricter than the current MARPOL standards.

The vessel can also use “cold ironing”, the system that allows docked ships to draw power from the shore without having to keep their engines running to feed the on-board generators. On Costa Fascinosa, what’s more, water is produced by desalination, various energy-saving measures have been implemented, and all waste is separated for recycling, including aluminum, glass and other types of refuse.
